Welcome Association Italy at the 19th Observatory on Migration in Rome and Lazio

Rome, June 19, 2024 - Welcome Association Italy, represented by Deputy National Secretary Carlo Palumbo, participated in the nineteenth edition of the Observatory on Migration in Rome and Lazio, a highly relevant event for the monitoring and analysis of migration phenomena in the region. The event was held at the prestigious Sala della Protomoteca on the Capitoline Hill, a historic and symbolic place in the city of Rome, which provided an ideal setting for discussions and analysis on the topic of immigration.

Welcome Association Italy's participation in this meeting demonstrates the organization's commitment to assisting foreign nationals arriving in Italy. Through constant interaction with academic authorities and the use of institutional sources, the association keeps abreast of regulatory and socioeconomic developments affecting immigration.

The Observatory on Migration in Rome and Latium, curated by the IDOS Study and Research Center and the "S. Pio V" Institute for Political Studies, provides a key opportunity to discuss and analyze the latest data regarding the foreign presence in the region. Invitees included academics, representatives of local and national institutions, and members of nongovernmental organizations, all united by the common goal of improving reception and integration policies.

During the event, studies and research providing a detailed overview of migration dynamics in Lazio were presented and discussed, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities related to the integration of foreign nationals. Among the benchmark statistics:

Foreign Population in Latium:

  • In 2022, foreigners residing in Latium increased by 2.6 percent to 634,045 people, accounting for 11.1 percent of the region's total population and 12.3 percent of foreigners residing in Italy.
  • Istat estimates predict a further 2.2 percent increase by 2023, bringing the number of foreign residents to 647,800.

Migratory Dynamics:

  • The growth of the foreign population in Latium was supported by a positive natural dynamic (+3,863) and a positive foreign migration balance (+25,882), influenced by the war in Ukraine.
  • Acquisitions of Italian citizenship increased by 44.4 percent in 2022 to 12,769.

The event provided a platform to share experiences and best practices, thereby improving welcoming and integration strategies.

Welcome Association Italy, true to its mission, actively participates in conferences and events focused on foreign nationals, with the goal of contributing to a more efficient and humane reception system.
