Applying for the Jubilee Visa
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), in collaboration with the Dicastery for Evangelization. - Section for Fundamental Issues of Evangelization in the World ( DPE ), has defined a specific "Modus Procedendi" to simplify the obtaining of an entry visa into Italy by the faithful intending to make a pilgrimage to Rome or other sacred places on Italian territory. Among the useful documents made available are:
- the visa application form, to be submitted at Italian Embassies or Consulates;
- A practical guide for the correct completion of the form;
- The list of countries whose citizens require mandatory visas;
- The official text of the agreement concluded between MAECI and DPE.
Waiting and approval
The timeline for processing applications varies, but on average it can take between 15 and 30 days. Therefore, it is critical to begin the process well in advance of the travel date.
Who this particular tourist visa is for
Here is some essential information about the special "Tourism-Jubilee" visa:
- the procedure is intended only for individuals participating in pilgrimages organized by a diocese or a community within the diocese, under the guidance of a Local Leader officially appointed by the diocesan Ordinary;
- the Local Manager must compile the list of pilgrims using the appropriate form and submit it to the appropriate Embassy or Consulate He/she effectively assumes the role of guarantor for the participants. Each pilgrim is also required to provide the necessary documentation for this type of visa at the time of application;
- the same Local Manager is obliged to send a copy of the list to the DPE as soon as possible through the Apostolic Nuncio and directly by e-mail, attaching a scan in PDF or image format. The address to forward the copy to is visa@iubilaeum2025.va;
- to take advantage of this procedure, it is essential to act well in advance and it is desirable to submit the list at least 40 days before the planned date of the pilgrimage. Until the DPE receives the copy, the file at the Embassy or Consulate will remain suspended;
- there remains, however, the possibility for anyone in need of a visa, to make an independent application with the competent authorities, without taking advantage of this dedicated procedure.
