Rome, October 17, 2024 - Welcome Association Italy (WAI) took part in the important event "Rome Refugee City," held in the beautiful setting of Villa Altieri. The event marked a further step forward in the strengthening of reception policies and the defense of human rights, demonstrating the synergy between institutions and associations committed to the front line on these issues.
WAI's presence at this event reaffirms the association's deep commitment to the protection of fundamental rights and the reception of refugee persons. The wide participation in the initiative, promoted in collaboration with Rome's Municipality IV and Municipality VIII, testified to how the Eternal City is a point of reference for inclusive policies and the protection of human rights.
The concept of "Refugee Cities" refers to those cities that are committed to providing protection and assistance to human rights defenders and refugee persons, offering them a safe environment where they can rebuild their lives, away from situations of violence and persecution.
During the meeting, several prominent institutional figures, such as Tiziana Biolghini, Councillor Delegate for Social Policies of the Metropolitan City of Rome, and Nella Converti, President of the Social Policies Commission of Roma Capitale, emphasized the importance of the Shelter City project, aimed at providing a safe haven for human rights defenders from difficult backgrounds.
WAI will continue to support these initiatives, reaffirming its closeness to all people seeking protection and to all the realities that, like "Rome Refugee City," work to build a more just and supportive society.
