In recent decades, learning a foreign language, traveling, even facing long distances, and moving to a country other than the one in which one was born has become much easier than it used to be. With the right preparation and qualifications, there are many foreigners choosing Italy to start a new personal and professional life away from their country of origin. In particular, there is a continuous increase in the number of women moving abroad to change their lifestyle, to pursue education or for work purposes.
Given the ongoing struggle for gender equality worldwide, in this article we will resort to a series of recent data and statistics from 100 nations to understand which countries offer the best opportunities for women.
Criteria for evaluating opportunities for women
Among the categories that affect women's lives, we will examine:
- work, which looks at the percentage of women who hold positions on boards of directors, in government or manage businesses and hold leadership roles;
- legislation, which examines, for example, maternity leave days;
- inequality, which includes data on the gender wage gap.
With regard to labor, among other factors we can also consider the "Equal Pay Date." This expression refers to the day of the year from which, due to the gender wage gap, women work practically for free until the end of the same year.
